How Does Movetivate WorK?

With Movetivate, you can send a fitness challenge to a friend. If they finish the challenge in time, they get a gift card of your choosing. If they don’t, you don’t pay—and hopefully send them another challenge.

What’s cool about this app compared to other fitness and challenge apps, is Movetivate verifies you actually completed the challenge, whether it’s a walk, run or going to a gym, and seamlessly emails you the gift card reward.


How Do I create a challenge?

Make your way to the challenge screen with the mountain icon. In the upper right, click New+ to create a new challenge. From there you choose a friend. You can search among current Movetivate users or invite a friend to join the app from your phone's contact list. You can also go to the Fitmap and find friends on the map to challenge.

Then you craft the challenge, choosing the type, duration and how long they have to do. You can challenge your friend to Walk, Run, go to the Gym or go to a Fitness Class. You set how many minutes they need to do the activity and how long until your challenge will expire. If you chose a Gym or Fitness Class, you will need to enter a location for them to go to. Finding out what gym they're paying for but haven't actually gone to is a great and very popular choice.

Finally, you choose a reward for your friend. Pick among popular brands to find that gift card that might give your friend that little extra motivation they need to get moving. Use your credit card to pay for the gift card and challenge card. You will only pay if your friend completes the challenge. If they do not, you will receive a full reimbursement. And hopefully try again!


How Do I compete in a challenge?

So you've been challenged? What you have before you is a challenge card, it presents the various elements of the challenge your friend has created for you, as well as the reward. It is also what verifies your progress. Start by accepting the challenge.Just before you are about to begin your challenge, flip the card over and click start.

For Walk and Run challenges, you have 2 minutes to get moving! If the phone senses insufficient motion for more than 2 minutes at any time during the challenge, the challenge will fail.

For Gym or Fitness Class challenges, you will need to be in range of the challenge location set by your friend. Once you're in range, you can begin the challenge. But don't stray too far from the challenge location or else it will cancel.


Why did I fail the challenge?

Missed a Walk challenge?

Once you've started the challenge, you have 2 minutes to get moving! If the phone senses insufficient motion for more than 2 minutes at any time during the challenge, the challenge will fail. So tell that talkative neighbor if he wants to talk he's going to have to join you!

Missed a Run challenge?

Once you've started the challenge, you have 2 minutes to get moving! If the phone senses insufficient motion for more than 2 minutes at any time during the challenge, the challenge will fail. And like a fit version of Santa Claus, Movetivate knows whether you've been walking or running!

Missed a Gym or Fitness Class challenge?

Make sure you don't stray too far! Once you've started a Gym or Fitness Class challenge, deviating too far from the challenge location will cancel it. You should be good if you stay within 100 yards of the dropped pin.

Is your phone behaving? Make sure you're phone stays on and has decent connectivity so Movetivate can do it's thing. And while you're encouraged to listen to music and keep Movetivate in the background, please do not close the app.

Are your Settings correct?

  • Access to your Motion & Fitness helps Movetivate validate your progress when completing a Walk or Run challenge.

  • Access to your location while using the app helps Movetivate validate you’re at the right location when completing a Gym or Fitness Class challenge.

  • Be sure you've enabled Location Services and Fitness Tracking and that you have given Movetivate access to both.

  • Your Motion & Fitness settings can be found in Settings > Privacy > Motion & Fitness.

  • Your Location settings can be found in Settings > Privacy > Location Services.


Where is my reward?

You earn the challenge reward when you successfully complete the challenge. When you complete a challenge, you will receive a pop up congratulating you. You then receive an email to the email account you used to sign on or the email you use with Facebook. The email contains a link to redeem your gift card reward!
